DFID Project “Power to the people. Governance for the welfare of vulnerable groups of population”
The training course was conducted in the frameworks of the second phase of the “Power to the people. Governance for the welfare of vulnerable groups of population” project which is funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID), which is a United Kingdom government department responsible for overseas policy and support programmes for other countries.
The overall goal of the training is to improve citizens’ awareness about their rights and legal interests, develop their capacities to influence upon the policy of government authorities and improve potential of participants for establishment of a Public Chamber under local government.
The chamber is expected to include representatives of local authorities and public figures of the region. The activity of the chamber will be aimed at:
- Development of cooperation between civil society and governmental structures
- Assisting citizens to implement their legal rights and freedoms
- Assistance in restoring citizens’ rights
The educational programme in Muminobod region will cover two jamoats of Shahrak and Boggai.
16 people, including 10 women, have attended the training course. The following sessions have been covered during the course together with the participants:
• The nature of the state
• State services
• State servants
• The structure of governmental bodies in the Republic of Tajikistan
• Right ensuring mechanism
• Transparency and accountability
• Advocacy and lobbying
• Institutes responsible for protection of citizens’ rights
• Ombudsman institute in Tajikistan in the mechanism of protection of citizens’ rights
