Human Rights Day
The annual conference dedicated to the International Human Rights Day: “On the way to integrated system of promotion and protection of human rights in Tajikistan” will take place in the conference hall of the Kohi Vakhdat complex in central Dushanbe on December 10, 2009. The event is organized by the UNDP within the frameworks of the “State Enhancement for the Improved Governance” project in close cooperation with the National Human Rights Institute and a series of other international partner organizations.
The event brought together deputies of the Majlisi Oli (the Upper Chamber of the Tajik Parliament), representatives of the President’s Office, ministries and departments, academicians and representatives of civil society and international organizations, including the “Rights & Prosperity”.
The goal of the conference was to analyze the activity in human rights sector in the past year, share experience and discuss the prospects and recommendations on the development of human rights in Tajikistan.
The attendants have also discussed the issues of the establishment and development of the National Human Rights Institute, its coordinating role for promotion and protection of human rights, implementation of all governmental programmes on human rights and submission of national reports to UN bodies.
