Meeting of representatives of public organizations of Tajikistan with President of St. Petersburg Center STRATEGY

On September 17 representatives of public organizations of Tajikistan met with Mr.Sungurov, president of the St. Petersburg Center STRATEGY. The meeting was initiated by UNDP.

The goal of this visit was to provide professional assistance to the Ombudsman Institute in Tajikistan, founded in summer 2009.
Meeting participants have outlined their expectations and identified potential allies of the institute. Representatives of public organizations are looking forward to establish mutually beneficial cooperation with the Ombudsman Institute in Tajikistan in related spheres of their activity. Human rights defenders focused on transparent activity of the Institute, active participation in the work of the Council of Experts under the Ombudsman Institute. They also stressed the need for the formation of a coalition of public organizations for effective dialogue with the Institute. Second visit of experts from St. Petersburg is scheduled for November 2009.
